Open Positions

Entry Level to Senior Structural Engineer

IDA Structural Engineers is hiring structural engineers at multiple career levels—from recent graduates to experienced senior engineers—for our downtown Oakland office. We offer a hybrid work model that combines in-person collaboration and mentorship with the flexibility of remote work.

Our engineers contribute to both new construction and the renovation, adaptive reuse, and seismic strengthening of existing buildings. Projects include schools, multifamily housing, research facilities, libraries, recreation centers, and other civic and community-serving facilities. Team members gain hands-on experience with a wide range of structural materials and systems while contributing meaningfully throughout every phase of a project.

We are looking for collaborative problem solvers who enjoy complex structural challenges and value thoughtful, practical design. Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing structural calculations using engineering software and hand calculations
  • Developing structural details and construction documents
  • Coordinating with architects, consultants, contractors, and clients
  • Performing construction administration, including submittal reviews and site visits
  • Participating in the evaluation, retrofit, and adaptive reuse of existing buildings
  • Supporting resilient, resource-efficient structural solutions that reduce embodied carbon

Responsibilities are tailored to each individual’s experience and professional goals. Entry-level engineers receive hands-on technical guidance and mentorship from experienced PEs and SEs. Mid-level engineers have opportunities to lead portions of projects, coordinate with clients and consultants, and mentor junior staff. Senior engineers may manage project teams, cultivate client relationships, contribute to firmwide technical standards, and help shape the future of the practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering with a structural emphasis; master’s degree preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with structural analysis and design software appropriate to the position
  • Working knowledge of Revit
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and manage responsibilities with attention to detail
  • PE or SE license preferred or required for certain senior-level positions
