Upgrade of the classic Classroom/Auditorium building and replacement for the Cafeteria building.
IDA conducted an ASCE 41-17 Tier 2 study and developed a report and rehabilitation recommendations on three existing buildings at the 80-year-old campus of Roosevelt Middle School for Oakland Unified School District. Based on the findings of different levels of deficiencies in the three buildings that were assessed, the classic classroom with auditorium building (Building A) will be modernized, a replacement for the cafeteria building (Building B) will be constructed, and the gym (Building C) will have only minor work.
The replacement building will be a new cafeteria/kitchen/classroom building of 1 or 2 stories, 14,000 to 16,000 sf.
The Classroom/Auditorium building will be renovated with diaphragm and shear wall strengthening, out-of-plane wall anchorage, and new shear walls – all in keeping with the classic architecture.
